ep. 03 Florian Kaps

Florian Kaps is a Vienna-based entrepreneur and trained biologist whose work has long been shaped by a fascination with perception and the analogue world.

Before turning to photography, Florian spent almost a decade studying the visual system of spiders. His interest in how we experience the world eventually led him to Lomography, where he first encountered analogue photography and later became fascinated by Polaroid.

When Polaroid decided to close its last instant-film factory in 2008, Florian co-founded The Impossible Project and helped buy the factory in an effort to keep instant film alive. Working with former Polaroid technicians, the team began rebuilding the complex production process almost from scratch.

He later founded SUPERSENSE in Vienna, bringing together analogue photography, vinyl and other physical processes in a space designed around the senses and the experience of making things by hand.

Florian joins the curious to talk about why analogue still matters, what it takes to pursue an idea that initially seems impossible, and why physical objects continue to hold value in an increasingly digital world.
